Nisbet hopes for more goals in Firhill return

In form Dunfermline striker Kevin Nisbet is hoping to get his name on the scoresheet again as he returns to Firhill to face his ex club, Partick Thistle. Jake Gray reports.

Nisbet was released by the Maryhill outfit in 2018 but insists there is no hard feelings towards his former employers.

“Of course, going back I want to do well and score, but there’s no bad blood or anything there.

“For me, it’s just another game where I want to go and play well, score, and help the boys to the three points.”

The Pars striker agreed that he deserved more of a chance during his time at Thistle but is glad he was let go by the Jags at the time he was.

“Back then, on the park and off the park, I wasn’t great if I’m being honest. I think them releasing me has kick-started my career and thankfully it did happen because if not I wouldn’t have went to Raith and scored so many goals and then came here. It was a blessing in disguise I think.”

The Pars received a lot of interest for the 22-year-old striker on transfer deadline day at the end of January but he insists he always knew he was going nowhere.

“I had to acknowledge the fact that other teams wanted to sign me but for me it was just complete tunnel vision for Dunfermline.

“The chairman said at the start of the window that he wasn’t selling me so I had that in my head. It wouldn’t be great losing your top scorer when you’re pushing for play-offs so I’m happy to stay here and try and get us promoted.”

The Pars lie just three points outside the play-off places and will be looking to take advantage of bottom side Partick’s poor form on Saturday to accelerate their way into the top four.
