Boyce and Rowles Add To Hearts Injury Woes
Robbie Neilson has provided an injury update ahead of tomorrow night’s Premier Sports Cup fixture. Aaron Fraser reports:
The Oriam treatment room is once again filled with the walking wounded after a number of injuries were suffered during Sunday’s 3-2 win over St Johnstone. Liam Boyce has damaged his cruciate and is set to miss most of the season, whereas Kye Rowles will be out for 6-8 weeks with a broken metatarsal.
It’s not all doom and gloom, however, with a number of absentees expected to return for the Jam Tarts tomorrow night. Neilson updated fans on the fitness of a few of his players.
“Atkinson will make it, we’ve got Cochrane back, we’ve got Sibbick back, we’ve got Kingsley back, and potentially Halkett depending on how he is from today. He’s been a key player for us for the last 18 months to 2 years so it’s good to get him back in the fold”
When asked about if the recent injury crisis will affect his plans in the transfer market, Neilson said that the club will try to add another one or two players to the squad. However, he doesn’t want to recruit players for the sake of it and would prefer to focus on the quality of the signing rather than how many he can get in the door.
“There’s no point in just adding numbers, we’ve got a number of young players that have come in such as Lewis Neilson, Connor Smith, Euan Henderson and Finlay Pollock. If the guys who are coming in aren’t at a better level than that then they aren’t going to be coming here”
